This Kenya safari combines classic wildlife adventure with a relaxing coastal escape, taking you from Nairobi through Amboseli and Tsavo East National Parks, and finally ending on the beautiful beaches of Mombasa. The journey offers a perfect balance of game viewing, scenic drives, and optional beach holiday extensions on either the north or south coast.
Accommodation options range from budget to luxury, making this itinerary suitable for solo travelers, families, and group safaris.
Day 1: Nairobi to Amboseli National Park
You will be picked up from Nairobi Airport or your hotel and begin your journey to Amboseli National Park, one of Kenya’s most iconic safari destinations.
Amboseli is famous for its large elephant herds and stunning views of Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain in Africa. The open plains and swampy wetlands create excellent conditions for wildlife viewing, with frequent sightings of elephants, lions, buffaloes, giraffes, zebras, and a wide variety of bird species.
You will arrive in time for lunch at your camp or lodge, followed by a relaxed check in.
In the afternoon, you will head out for your first game drive, exploring the park as wildlife becomes active in the cooler hours of the day.
Dinner and overnight stay will be at your camp in Amboseli.
Day 2: Full Day in Amboseli National Park
After an early breakfast, you will set out for a full-day game drive across Amboseli National Park with a packed lunch.
This is the best way to explore the park’s diverse habitats, from open savannah to swamp areas that attract large concentrations of wildlife. Amboseli is especially known for its close-up elephant encounters, offering some of the best photography opportunities in Africa.
On clear days, Mount Kilimanjaro dominates the background, creating a breathtaking setting for wildlife sightings.
You may also encounter lions, cheetahs, hyenas, buffaloes, zebras, and numerous bird species throughout the day.
In the evening, you will return to your camp for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 3: Amboseli to Tsavo East National Park
After breakfast, you will depart Amboseli and drive toward Tsavo East National Park along the Nairobi Mombasa highway, enjoying scenic views along the way.
Tsavo East is one of Kenya’s largest and oldest parks, known for its vast open landscapes, red-dust elephants, and iconic wildlife experiences.
Upon arrival, you will check in at your lodge and have lunch before heading out for an afternoon game drive.
During your safari, you may see elephants, lions, giraffes, buffaloes, zebras, antelopes, and crocodiles along the riverbanks. The park’s wide horizons and rugged beauty offer a different safari atmosphere compared to Amboseli.
Dinner and overnight stay will be at your lodge in Tsavo East.
Day 4: Tsavo East to Mombasa
You will start the day with an early breakfast followed by a short en route game drive as you exit Tsavo East National Park.
After the drive, you will continue your journey to Mombasa, Kenya’s coastal city. The route offers changing landscapes as savannah gradually gives way to coastal scenery.
You will arrive in Mombasa around midday and be dropped off at your hotel of choice along the north or south coast, depending on your beach holiday arrangement.
This marks the end of your safari portion, with the option to continue enjoying a relaxing beach holiday by the Indian Ocean.
