Day 1: Kigali to Nyungwe National Park via Cultural Heritage Sites
After breakfast in Kigali, your guide will pick you up for a scenic drive toward Nyungwe National Park in southwestern Rwanda.
The journey includes meaningful cultural stops that introduce you to Rwanda’s rich history. You will visit the Nyanza Royal Palace Museum, once the residence of Rwanda’s traditional kings, where you will learn about the country’s monarchical past and royal traditions.
You will continue to Huye for a guided tour of the Ethnographic Museum, one of East Africa’s most important cultural institutions. The museum offers deep insight into Rwanda’s history, traditions, craftsmanship, and way of life.
After the cultural visits, you will proceed through rolling hills and scenic countryside to Nyungwe National Park. In the afternoon, you will enjoy a guided walk through lush tea plantations, where you will see tea pickers at work and learn how Rwanda’s famous tea is grown and processed.
Later, you will check in at your lodge for dinner and overnight stay, surrounded by the peaceful atmosphere of the rainforest.
Day 2: Chimpanzee Trekking and Canopy Walk Experience
Your day begins early with breakfast before heading to the park headquarters for a detailed briefing on chimpanzee trekking.
You will then enter the dense Nyungwe rainforest with experienced rangers in search of wild chimpanzees. The trek takes you through thick vegetation, steep terrain, and a rich ecosystem filled with birds, monkeys, and unique plant life. Once you locate the chimpanzees, you will spend an unforgettable hour observing their behavior, interactions, and movement in their natural habitat. After the trek, you will return to your lodge for lunch and relaxation.
In the afternoon, you will visit the Uwinka Visitor Center for the famous canopy walkway experience. This 160-meter suspension bridge hangs high above the forest, offering breathtaking views of the treetops and opportunities to spot monkeys, birds, and butterflies from above the rainforest.
You will return to your lodge in the evening for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 3: Kamiranzovu Waterfall Hike and Return to Kigali
After breakfast, you will set out for a guided hike to Kamiranzovu Waterfall, the largest waterfall in Nyungwe Forest. The trail leads you through dense rainforest, wetlands, and rich biodiversity, offering a peaceful and scenic nature experience. At the waterfall, you will enjoy the beauty and sound of cascading water surrounded by untouched forest before beginning your return hike.
After the experience, you will return to your lodge, check out, and begin your journey back to Kigali.
The drive takes you once again through Rwanda’s scenic rolling hills and rural landscapes. Upon arrival in Kigali, you will be dropped off at your hotel or Kigali International Airport, marking the end of your Nyungwe adventure.
